create your own visited country map

I see that Greece isn't on your map yet. While it's not my favorite country, it was nevertheless good to see the nation where my father was born and raised. I even got to see his high school and the house where he was born (both from the outside only, but better than nothing).

I also encountered some people who'd grown up with my father. One of them saw me walking with my aunt and immediately asked if I was Stavros's son. Apparently he could tell by my face.

Anyhow, I hope you get to visit Greece someday. Sounds like you were exposed to more of the culture than I was growing up. While I got the name, my upbringing was decidedly WASPy.

Thanks for your thoughtful comment, Sokrates. i do want to get to Greece someday. My family is from a small town ont he Adraitic that has become a resort town. My grandfather and his brother owned an olive tree orchard there that was more or less worthless until fifteen or so years ago. They let their cousins run the orchard for years and it has more or less become their property. One of my aunts has been interested in reclaiming it for us. With the rise in the price of olive oil and the resort town driving real estate prices up, the cousins and the townsfolk of Kyparrisia are not too excited to see our family.
But one day I'll go and maybe not mention my family name and just play American tourist.
